Dialogue on Security: Meeting with a representative of the State Forensic Examination Committee

March 11, students of the University met with Ruslan A. Romanov, Deputy Head of State Forensic Examination Committee of the Republic of Belarus for Gomel Region. The meeting was devoted to one of the most serious issues facing modern society: drug prevention and combating the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their precursors, and analogues.

The speaker enlarged on the legal framework for combating this evil, reminding students of key provisions of the Law of the Republic of Belarus “On narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their precursors and analogues”, having explained contents of the national list of prohibited substances.

During his speech, Ruslan A. Romanov spoke in detail about types of narcotic drugs prevalent in the country. He placed particular emphasis on the mechanisms by which narcotic drugs affect human body, emphasizing that the consequences of even a single use can be irreversible. He also presented current drug-related crime statistics for Gomel region, which, despite the measures taken, continue to be a serious concern for law enforcement.

Special attention of students was paid to systemic measures implemented in Belarus to counter illegal drug trafficking. The speaker explained in detail the penalties for violating the law in this area, which range from large fines to long prison terms, serving as a stern warning to those who may become involved in illegal activities.

Summing up the meeting, Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work Lyudmila G. Soboleva addressed the students and encouraged them to always make considered and conscious decisions, understanding that any unwise action can become a fable separating life on “before” and “after”.

“Always remember that your choices affect more than just you”, Lyudmila G. Soboleva emphasized. “Every action of you is observed by your parents, to whom you will always remain children; your own children, who need healthy and free parents; and your loved ones, whose happiness directly depends on your well-being. Take care of yourself and think about those who love you”.
