Teaching of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases at Gomel State Medical University has been ongoing since 1993, when a course in Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases was organized within the Department of Internal Medicine (headed by Irena Ivanovna Mistyukevich).
The course's clinical base was the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital for Disabled Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, headed by Honored Doctor of the Republic of Belarus, MD, and Associate Professor Leonid Ibragimovich Druyan.
As an independent structural unit of the university, the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases was organized on February 9, 1998.
In 1998, Leonid Vasilyevich Romankov, PhD, and Associate Professor, became the head of the department. Among the first faculty members were Associate Professor L.I. Druyan and assistants S.V. Smirnov, I.N. Koval, A.M. Zhigaltsov, and A.I. Kirichenko, and hospital physicians F.Ya. Kalinovsky, N.V. Goncharova, A.N. Lashkevich, and A.N. Bogdanovich.
Under L.V. Romankov's leadership, a comprehensive database of educational and methodological resources for students and faculty was created for each practical lesson in the subjects studied, a number of teaching aids were published, and innovative technologies using multimedia presentations for lectures were introduced.
In 2013, Andrey Leonidovich Kalinin, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department. In 2015, Igor Vladimirovich Paltsev successfully defended his PhD dissertation under his supervision.
The department has modern clinical facilities: the Gomel University Clinic - Regional Clinical Hospital for Veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the State Healthcare Institution "Gomel City Clinical Hospital No. 1," the State Healthcare Institution "Gomel City Clinical Hospital No. 2," and the State Healthcare Institution "Gomel City Clinical Hospital No. 4." It also boasts sufficient human resources to ensure high-quality student training, research, consultative, and clinical work that meets modern standards.
Leonid Ibragimovich Druyan, Honored Doctor of Belarus, PhD, Associate Professor, and former Chief Physician of the Gomel Regional State Institution of Healthcare, has worked in the Department of Internal Medicine Propaedeutics for over 30 years.
The Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases has made a significant contribution to the development of the university. A special role in this belongs to Associate Professor Leonid Ibragimovich Druyan, who at that time was Chief Physician of the Hospital for Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and an active supporter of the establishment of a medical institute in Gomel. Currently, the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital for Disabled Veterans of the Great Patriotic War has been renamed into the Gomel University Clinic – Regional Hospital for Disabled Veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
