Department of Public Health and Health Care with the course of Advanced Training and Retraining

The Department of Social Hygiene and Healthcare Organization of the educational institution “Gomel State Medical University” was established in 1993. Elena Aleksandrovna Boyarinova, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor from the educational institution “Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute,” was invited to take the position of Head of the Department.

From July 1, 2001, the Department of Social Hygiene and Healthcare Organization was renamed the Department of Public Health and Healthcare in accordance with Order No. 198 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated June 10, 2001. From March 1, 2018, the department was renamed the Department of Public Health and Healthcare with a course of the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining.

From 2001 to the present day, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Tamara Mikhailovna Sharshakova.

At the Department of Public Health and Healthcare with a course of the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining, students of the 1st–6th years from three faculties are trained: the Faculty of General Medicine, the Faculty of Medical Diagnostics, and the Faculty of International Students.

Since September 2009, all disciplines for students of the Faculty of International Students have been taught in English.

From the 2012/2013 academic year, the Department of Public Health and Healthcare has been providing master’s degree training in the specialty 1–79 80 23 — “Public Health and Healthcare.” Since 2019, master’s degree training has been conducted in the specialty 1–79 80 01 — “General Medicine.”

On the basis of Order No. 202 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated July 17, 2001, postgraduate (PhD) studies were opened in the specialty 14.02.03 — “Public Health and Healthcare.”

By decision of the Board of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Republic of Belarus dated February 19, 2015, No. 3/7, doctoral training in the specialty 14.02.03 “Public Health and Healthcare” was opened at the Department of Public Health and Healthcare with a course of the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining to implement postgraduate education programs of the second level (doctoral studies).

Since 2017, training of medical personnel has been carried out at the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining.

At present, the Faculty of Advanced Training and Retraining provides education under the following programs:

Management and marketing in the healthcare system;

Professional communication in healthcare;

Medical expertise;

Fundamentals of pedagogy and psychology;

Medical law.

Since 2019, full-time retraining has been conducted in the specialty 1-81 02 73 “Healthcare Organization” for physicians specializing in healthcare management.
