Department of Russian as a foreign language

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language was established within the Faculty for the Training of Specialists for Foreign Countries, providing additional Russian language classes for international graduate students and residents. From that time on, systematic Russian language instruction for foreigners began at Gomel State Medical University. The first head of the department was, PhD in pedagogy and associate professor.

 A great contribution to the development and formation of the structural unit was made by senior teachers Galina A. Dovgyalo, Elena V. Golubeva, Elena M. Kazakova, Nina Ch. Pashkovskaya, Lyudmila S. Voronova, Marina G. Sitnikova.

Since 2011, the department has been headed by Inna M. Petrachkova, PhD in Philology and Associate Professor.

The department also has one professor, Valentina S. Novak, Doctor of Philology. 3 associate professors, candidates of philological sciences: Vyacheslav A. Kopytko, Alla V. Portnova-Shakhovskaya, Tatyana N. Shilko. Currently, the following teachers are actively involved in educational, methodological and upbringing work at the department: Oksana E. Morozova, Olga A. Malyavko, Svetlana V. Pogodina, Ekaterina A. Bulkova, Olga M. Spektor, Anton Y. Krokhmalnik, Liliya G. Vetukh, Natalya V. Berezko.

The department provides Russian language training to international medical students in four areas: in the preparatory department; in years 1–3, where instruction is conducted in Russian; in English-language groups (years 1–3); and in courses of Russian as a foreign language. In addition, the department organizes entrance examinations for postgraduate studies, interviews for residency, and the candidate's exam in Russian for foreign citizens.

The Department of Russian as a Foreign Language makes a significant contribution to the development of international relations and the establishment and strengthening of interethnic ties. It regularly hosts intra-university Olympiads in "Russian as a Foreign Language" and literary evenings commemorating significant dates and events.

Over the years, the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language has received numerous diplomas for excellence in ideological and educational work.

The department boasts excellent educational facilities and modern technical equipment. The department staff is a member of the Belarusian Public Association of Teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language.
