Department of Pediatrics with the course of Advanced Training and Retraining

Pediatrics (Greek: pais, paidos – child + iatreia – treatment, healing) is a field of clinical medicine that studies the health of the child during development, the physiology and pathology of childhood, and develops methods for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of childhood diseases.

The Department of Pediatrics at Gomel State Medical University was established on June 28, 1991. The department's first clinical site was the Gomel Regional Children's Hospital.

From 1991 to 1997, the department was headed by Eleonora Kuzminichna Kapitonova, MD, PhD, Associate Professor.

From 1997 to 2001, the department was headed by Galina Sergeevna Bandazhevskaya, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor.

From 2001 to 2006, Alexander Aleksandrovich Kozlovsky, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, was appointed Head of the Department.

Since October 2006, the department has been headed by Alla Ivanovna Zaryankina, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor.

The Department of Pediatrics trains fourth- to sixth-year students from the Faculties of General Medicine, Medical Diagnostics, and the Faculty for the Training of Foreign Specialists, as well as medical interns, clinical residents, and postgraduate students.

The department's staff are active members of the regional society of pediatricians. Staff members of the Department of Pediatrics have frequently presented at various regional, national, and international pediatric forums.
