The Department of Outpatient Therapy and General Practice with a course in dermatovenereology was established on August 1, 2005, to improve the educational process and based on the rector's decision of June 13, 2005, and the University Council's decision of June 29, 2005.
The first head of the department was Erik Nikolaevich Platoshkin, PhD (Med.), Associate Professor.

Associate Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Bronsky, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor Nikolai Vladimirovich Vasilevich, and assistants Natalia Nikolaevna Efimova and Vladimir Sergeevich Voronin. Since September 2010, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor Pyotr Nikolaevich Kovalchuk has joined the department.
From October 2010 to June 2011, the duties of the head of the department were performed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Nikolai Vladimirovich Vasilevich.

From June 2011 to March 2020, the department was headed by Natalia Fedorovna Bakalets, PhD.
From March 2020 to May 2021, the department was headed by Pyotr Nikolaevich Kovalchuk, PhD (Medicine).
From May 2021 to the present, Natalia Fedorovna Bakalets, Candidate of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, has been appointed Head of the Department.
In previous years, the department’s teachers included candidate of medical sciences Elena Evgenievna Linkevich, assistants Natalia Nikolaevna Smagina, Olga Ivanovna Moiseenko, Natalia Nikolaevna Baginskaya, and Elena Andreevna Mikhailova.
Currently, professor Elena Ivanovna Mikhailova, associate professor Pyotr Nikolaevich Kovalchuk, associate professor Larisa Sergeevna Kovalchuk, senior lecturer Anna Vasilievna Pronevich, Olga Leonidovna Nikiforova, assistents Olga Efimovna Timoshenko, Anna Evgenievna Voropaeva, Ali Ukla, Elena Leonidovna Radovnya, Alla Aleksandrovna Mazanchuk work at the department.

The department trains 4th and 6th year students of the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Foreign Students in the following disciplines: Outpatient Therapy, Palliative Care, Emergency Cardiology and Other Emergency Conditions.
Department staff are responsible for the "Medical Outpatient" practical training program, which is offered after the fourth year of study to students in the Faculty of General Medicine and the Faculty of International Students. The department also offers "Introductory" practical training for first-year students and "Nursing" practical training for second-year students.
The department's clinical sites are the State Healthcare Institution "Gomel City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care";
The State Healthcare Institution "Gomel Central City Clinical Polyclinic" and its branch No. 12; and the State Healthcare Institutions "Gomel Central City Clinical Polyclinic Nos. 2, 4, 3, and 8."
The department trains clinical residents and interns in the following specialties: General Medical Practice, Emergency Medical Care, Therapy, and Cardiology.
