The Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, General and Clinical Pharmacology was created in February 1992. The department was headed by PhD Boris F. Dorofeev (since 1994. – M.D, Professor).

First lectures of the department were assistant Lyudmila I. Novogran, senior teacher Galina M. Bronskaya, trainee teacher S.G. Sidoruk.

In 2000 after the reorganization the department was renamed to the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology with a course in the history of medicine.


In June 2002 the Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, General and Clinical Pharmacology was created after the merger of the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology with the course of anesthesiology and resuscitation.

The head of the Department became Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Igor M. Savchenko.
Igor M. Savchenko was an experienced doctor, a good professor and a talented scientist. Under his leadership, a lot of students, interns, clinical residents and graduate students were trained. He took part in active scientific activity, which consisted in creating fundamentally new methods that allow optimizing both intensive therapy and anesthesiological support for the delivery of pregnant women with extragenital pathology.


In 2007 the department was renamed to the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology with a course of anesthesiology and resuscitation.


Since 2013 the department has been called General and Clinical Pharmacology.

Since August 2007 Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Elena I. Mikhailova became the head of the department. She is author of more than 200 publications, 2 monographs, more than 20 rationalization proposals, 3 inventions, 3 instructions on methods.

The department delivers instruction to third- and sixth-year students of the Faculty of General Medicine and the International Students Faculty, third-year students of the Faculty of Medical Diagnostics, and second-, third-, and fifth-year students of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine.
Educational activities are conducted at two primary locations:
• Gomel State Medical University, Building No. 3 (11a Karl Marx Street);
• Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital (5 Bratyev Lizyukovykh Street).
The department conducts advanced training courses for doctors and pharmacists.
