Department of Otorhinolaryngology with the course of Ophthalmology and Stomatology

Department of othorinolaryngology with course ophthalmology takes its origin from 1992, when it was organized the othorinolaryngology course, and in January 2008 with arrival to the department of doctor of medical sciences, Professor, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Valery Petrovich Sitnikov in January 2008 created a department of otorhinolaryngology with a course of ophthalmology, which was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Irina Dmitrievna Shlyaga. Since 2024, the department has organized a course in dentistry.

The clinical bases of the department are otorhinolaryngological departments of Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital, Gomel Specialized Clinical Hospital and Gomel Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.

Endoscopic methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nose and buccal sinuses have been introduced and widely applied on the basis of ENT clinics, as well as plastic surgeries are performed on the external nose with good anatomical and functional results, corrective operations of curved nasal septum, microsurgical surgery - on the larynx.

Since 2004, the staff of the department has been actively developing issues of diagnosis and treatment of mycotic pathology of ENT organs and precancerous diseases of the upper respiratory tract.  Under the supervision and with the participation of the head of the department Iryna D. Shlyaga, diagnosis and treatment of patients with the most complex clinical cases is carried out.

The course of ophthalmology is headed by PhD, Associate Professor Ludmila V. Dravitsa. The clinical basis of the course is the department of microsurgery of the eyes of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology. The clinic has modern equipment, unique for our republic (level of leading clinics in Europe): optical coherent tomograph of the front and back eye - for early diagnosis of glaucoma and pathology of the retina, pediatric retinal system for early diagnosis of premature reactivity; endothelial microscope for life-time evaluation of corneal cells.

The course of dentistry is headed by the PhD, Associate Professor Kolchanova E. Natalia The clinical basis of the course is the department of maxillofacial surgery (dentistry) of the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital and the Gomel Central City Clinical Polyclinic, branch 12.

Currently at the department of otorhinolaryngology with a course in ophthalmology and dentistry, graduate students are studying the issues of diagnosis and treatment of organ ENT mycosis and open-angle glaucoma.

The department is occupied by students of III, IV, V and VI courses of medical, medical diagnostic faculty, preventive medicine faculty and the faculty of foreign students, also domestic and foreign clinical residents are trained. Trained in clinical residency doctors from Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Turkey.

And also increase their qualification of doctors of otorhinolaryngologists, ophthalmologists, dentist, infectious, surgeons, oncologists, maxillofacial surgeons, general practitioners, therapists, etc. by the direction of faculty of professional development, which operates in our university.
