Department of Epidemiology and Evidential Medicine

The Department of Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Medicine was created by decision of the Academic Council of the University and opened on September 2, 2024. The creation of the department is of fundamental importance for the training of medical and preventive doctors, the formation of an educational and methodological base, and the development of scientific and practical issues to ensure the epidemiological well-being of the population. The department is a graduate department for students studying in the specialty «medical and preventive care».

Epidemiology is taught to students of all faculties. Students receive theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the diagnosis and prevention of diseases, based on epidemiological research methods. Curricula include the study of the fundamentals of evidence-based medicine, which is the theoretical basis of clinical practice.

The course of study includes a specialization of subordination «hospital epidemiology». Epidemiological support – a set of diagnostic, preventive and anti-epidemic measures aimed at creating a safe hospital environment and preventing nosocomial infection.  The organization of epidemiological support is carried out by epidemiologists of healthcare institutions, which is a priority when working in an unfavorable epidemiological situation.

The department is located at the State Institution "City Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology" at 143 Sovetskaya Street. It has five classrooms equipped with everything necessary for conducting classes, an assistant's office, and an office for the head of the department.

Close cooperation with the practical sanitary and epidemiological service makes it possible to actively use modern forms of education. The organization of student education on the basis of the city center of epidemiology is aimed at the acquisition of practical experience by the student. The student acquires the skills of practical readiness for certain actions and operations based on existing knowledge, skills and abilities.

Practical training of students is carried out on the bases of regional and city centers of hygiene and epidemiology, in accredited laboratories, using automated workplaces of epidemiologists.

 
The department is headed by Liudmila P. Mamchyts, PhD, Associate Professor.

Professor, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Viktar S. Averyn works at the department.

The head of the academic department is Liliya S. Astapenka, an assistant professor with extensive practical experience in healthcare.

The teaching staff of the department includes associate professors of the department, Candidates of medical Sciences Nadzeya A. Bondа and Yauheni V Varapayeu, Dzmitry V. Tserashkou, assistant Katsiaryna S. Korsak, assistant Nataliia S. Letashkova, senior lecturer of the department Aliaksei V, Krauchuk, the  expert of the department Sviatllana V. Matsveeyenka.

There are not many of us yet, but this is a team of like-minded people, dedicated to their work, real professionals who love their profession.
