The Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy at Gomel State Medical Institute was established on February 8, 1993. The 5th City Hospital of Gomel became the clinical base of the department. Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Leonid Galkin was appointed Head of the department.
Since 1995, the clinical base of the department has been "Gomel Regional Oncological Dispensary". In 1997, the Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy was merged with the Department of Oncology. The newly formed department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Vasily Nikolaevich Belyakovsky (since 2007 - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor).

The course of radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy of the newly formed department was headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Leonid Porfirievich Galkin, and since 2008 – Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department Alexey Mikhailovich Yurkovsky.

Since 09.01.2016, the course of radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy became part of the Department of Internal Diseases No. 3, however, on 04.01.2021, it was again transformed into the Department of Radiation Diagnostics and Radiation Therapy. Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Alexey Mikhailovich Yurkovsky was appointed Head of the department (since 2022 - Doctor of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor).

Since November 14, 2024, the head of the department has been Candidate of Medicine, Associate Professor of the Department Ermolitsky Nikolai Mikhailovich.
At the moment, the head of the department is Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department Natalia Borisovna Krivelevich.
