The study of issues related to intensive care, resuscitation and anesthesiology in a series of classes was first proposed as part of the curriculum at the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 1 (the head of the department was PhD, Associate Professor V.M. Lobankov).
In 1998, the same department established a separate course in "Anesthesiology and Resuscitation" for the first time, headed by Igor Mikhailovich Savchenko, PhD, Associate Professor.
Assistant Professor Boris Valerievich Ignatenko served as the course's faculty member.
In 2004, as a result of the merger of the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology with the course of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, the Department of Anesthesiology, Resuscitation, General and Clinical Pharmacology was formed.
The department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences Igor Mikhailovich Savchenko.

Since 2013, the course has been part of the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 2 (Head of the Department, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Z.A. Dundarov).
In 2016, the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Course was merged with the Department of Traumatology, Orthopedics, and Military Field Surgery. Associate Professor Tatyana Vladimirovna Lyzikova, PhD, was appointed Head of the Course.

In 2021, Sergei Valentinovich Konkou, PhD, was appointed Head of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation.
The department's main clinical sites are the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital, the City Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medical Care, and the Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital.
