The Department of Urology at Gomel Medical University was founded in September 2018. Previously, the Urology course was taught as part of the Urology course at the Department of Surgical Diseases No. 3. Natalia I.Simchenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Associate Professor, became the head of the department.

Since August 2023, Andrei S.Knyazyuk, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor, has headed the department.

The department has three clinical sites: Gomel City Clinical Hospital No. 2, Gomel Regional Clinical Hospital, and Gomel City Clinical Emergency Hospital.
The department trains fifth- and sixth-year students from the General Medicine and Medical Diagnostic Faculties and the Faculty of International Students in the specialties of General Medicine and Medical Diagnostics in Urology and Surgical Diseases (including Urology). Urologists, surgeons, obstetricians/gynecologists, internists, nephrologists, and general practitioners also undergo advanced training and retraining. Clinical residents and postgraduate students also undergo training.
The department's staff actively participates in various international, national, and regional urology forums, congresses, and conferences. Furthermore, since 2017, the Polesie Urology Forum, the republic's largest scientific and practical event for general practitioners, urologists, surgeons, obstetricians-gynecologists, internists, and nephrologists, has been held annually.

The department's faculty has published over 300 articles in scientific journals, collections of articles, and symposium proceedings.
