Gomel State Medical University

The history of Gomel State Medical University dates back to 1990, when, by Resolution No. 284 of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR dated November 14, 1990, and Order No. 188 of the Minister of Health of the BSSR dated November 20, 1990, Gomel State Medical Institute was opened in November 1990 to ensure the training of highly qualified physicians and specialists for those most affected by the Chernobyl disaster in the Gomel and Mogilev regions. 


The university offers education in five faculties: General Medicine; Medical Diagnostics; International Students; Pre-University Training; and Continuing Education and Retraining. The university has over 3,857 undergraduate, graduate, and clinical residents, including 750 foreign citizens from 29 countries studying in Russian and English. 


The university's practice-oriented education is organized across 38 departments, 22 of which are clinical, as well as a practical training and simulation center equipped with state-of-the-art simulation equipment. 


Nineteen large clinics, equipped with modern facilities, serve as training centers, as well as the Gomel University Clinic – a regional hospital for veterans of the Great Patriotic War, a professorial advisory center, a research laboratory, a personalized medicine laboratory, an information and publishing center, and more.
