History

The training of medical specialists for foreign countries at Gomel State Medical University has been conducted since 2000 on the basis of the letter of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated April 4, 2000 No.08-28/2462 and the letter of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus dated April 12, 2000 No. 14-8/180.


In 2000, on the basis of the decision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus dated April 4, 2000 No. 08-28/2462, the decision of the Institute Council (minutes dated February 24, 2000 No. 3) and the order of the rector (dated September 11, 2000 No. 1-IN), the Faculty of Training Specialists for Foreign Countries (FTSFC) was opened.


The activities of the Faculty were carried out in accordance with the Regulation, developed taking into account the specifics of working with foreign citizens (passport and visa regime, medical care, contract form of education, etc.) and in accordance with the requirements of the regulatory documents of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.


From 2000 to 2005, the Faculty was managed by the Vice-Rector for International Relations, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Vladimirovich Anichkin.


The Dean of the Faculty from 2000 to 2003 was candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Boris Kupriyanovich Kuznetsov.


The founders of the Faculty were Lyudmila Ivanovna Novogran, Ruslan Aleksandrovich Karpov, Svetlana Antonovna Matveenko, Larisa Petrovna Domnenko and Irina Kirsanova.


The first graduation of foreign citizens from Gomel State Medical University took place in 2001. 

Diplomas with the title "Doctor of Medicine" were awarded to 19 medical specialists, citizens of foreign countries.


In the process of development of the Faculty, an educational and methodological base for training doctors of various specialties for foreign countries was formed. Initially, training was conducted according to the curricula and programs of the medical faculty, an additional course "Tropical diseases" was introduced. Subsequently, programs for foreign students in various disciplines were developed.

The organization of the study of the Russian language by foreign students ensured a high level of knowledge and the quality of their training.


Foreign students studied in the same groups with domestic students, which made it easier for them to adapt to new living conditions.


Particular attention was and is paid to educational work. Foreign students participate in musical and literary evenings, study in sports sections, celebrate national and religious holidays, and have the opportunity to communicate with each other within the framework of their fellow countrymen.

 

In 2003, the Faculty was headed by candidate of medical sciences, associate professor Alexander Alexandrovich Kozlovsky.

In different years, the deans were: in 2003-2005 - Svetlana Antonovna Matveenko. From 2005 to 2007, the Faculty was headed by PhD Dmitry Yuryevich Ruzanov, PhD Viktor Aleksandrovich Melnik. In 2007-2017 - PhD, Associate Professor Svetlana Aleksandrovna Khoduleva. In 2017-2021, the dean of the faculty was Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Viktor Aleksandrovich Melnik. 

From 2021 to 2025, the Faculty was headed by PhD, Associate Professor Andrey Mikhailovich Karamyshau.

       Currently, Katsiaryna Nikolaevna Shcharbakova has been appointed as the Dean of the Faculty.Foreign citizens are admitted to the Faculty regardless of race and nationality, gender and religion.

The training process takes into account regional features of the climatic and ethnic factors of the students' countries of residence.

Currently, more than 1000 students from 35 countries of the world study at the faculty: Sri Lanka, India, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Syria, Morocco, Nigeria, Yemen, Lebanon, Maldives, Israel, Great Britain, Australia, Bangladesh, Russia, Ukraine, etc.
