Admission regulations for foreign citizens

DOCUMENTS AND INTERVIEW QUESTIONS
A STUDY INVITATION ISSUING

Foreign citizens of countries with a visa regime come to study in Belarus with a study visa issued by the embassy or consulate of the Republic of Belarus by applying a study invitation.

Citizens of visa-free countries (Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Republic of Azerbaijan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Armenia, etc.) are not required to have a study invitation. Citizens of the Russian Federation, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Republic of Tajikistan can enter the university to the Faculty of General Medicine and the Faculty of Diagnostic Medicine based on the results of centralized testing on equal basis with citizens of Republic of Belarus:

  • on a state-funded form of education;

  • on a fee-paying form of education.


Or for contractual fee-paying form of education based on the results of an interview in Russian language, Chemistry and Biology to the Faculty of International Students.



In order to get a study invitation to Gomel State Medical University the following document are required:


  • a copy of passport with an expiration date of minimum 2 years;

  • a copy of education document indicating subjects studied and exam marks obtained;

  • application for issuance of a study invitation addressed to the Rector of the university.



The above mentioned documents are to be submitted to the International Department of the university either by regular post,  е-mail interoffice@gsmu.by or any other convenient way


IMPORTANT! The listed documents (passport and education document), executed in a foreign language, must be accompanied by their translation into Russian language certified by a notary.



After receiving the applicant's documents, the university carries out their examination and makes a decision on the possibility of issuing a study invitation in accordance with rules for admission of foreign citizens for the current academic year. When reviewing documents, the Dean's office of the Faculty of International Students has the right to additionally request documents confirming financial solvency of the applicant (or his sponsor) and other documents.

Pleasenote , that it takes certain time to issue a study invitation (minimum 15 working days).

The invitation is valid for three months from the date of its approval by the Citizenship and Migration Office, arrival terms are indicated in the invitation. Therefore, the application for issuing a study invitation is to be submitted to the university in advance. Thus, the date of interview at the embassy and the date of arrival must be planned in accordance with these deadlines.

To speed up the response process on our part and to avoid delays, please, leave your contact e-mail address. The original invitation is sent by the university solely by regular post. Re-invitations are not issued.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES:

  • for getting a study invitation: May 1 - August 31;
  • for enrollment to the university: August 1 - October 15.

FOR YEARS 1-6 CLASSES START ON SEPTEMBER 1.


Visa obtaining

In case the documents meet the established requirements, an applicant is issued a study invitation, which is the basis for obtaining a student visa and coming to the University for study. An applicant must arrive to Belarus within the period of time specified in study invitation.

In case there is no consular office of the Republic of Belarus in the applicant's country of origin, a student visa can be issued at Consular Department of Minsk National Airport. In accordance with the requirements of border control authorities of the Republic of Belarus, as well as Consular Department, foreign citizens planning to obtain a visa at Consular Department of Minsk National Airport are required to notify Dean's office about the arrival date and route 15 days before arrival.


IMPORTANT! A student visa for foreign citizens is issued at Minsk National Airport only upon the availability of all necessary documents and in the presence of an official representative of the university.


To obtain a visa at Consular Department of Minsk National Airport upon arrival to Belarus, it is obligatory to have:


  • secondary education documents, legalized in accordance with the established procedure;

  • valid passport;

  • 1 photo sized 35х45;

  • original study invitation with valid entry terms;

  • medical report on a complete examination, indicating that the applicant is physically and mentally healthy and can study in the climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus; 
  • certificate of absence of HIV infection issued by the official health authority of the applicant’s country of origin;

  • cash money required for receiving a student visa (from 130 to 200 US dollars) and for paying tuition fee and living expenses (minimum 3,000 US dollars).


ARRIVAL FOR STUDY

Upon arrival to the Republic of Belarus (Gomel), a foreign citizen must submit the following documents to the Dean's office of the Faculty of International Students:

  • valid passport with a study visa for entry into the Republic of Belarus;

  • original education document indicating subjects studied and exam marks obtained (in Russian, English, French, Spanish, German);

  • medical report (original) on the state of health indicating the possibility of studying in the climatic conditions of the Republic of Belarus and certificate of absence of HIV infection issued by the official health authority of the applicant’s country of origin;

  • 10 photos sized 3x4 см;

  • copy of study invitation from the university;

  • certificate on completion of preparatory courses or preparatory department (Russian language studying) in case of admission to the 1st year with Russian language of training.

IMPORTANT! All documents in a foreign language must be translated into Russian language and notarized.


For minors (under 18 years of age), it is necessary to provide a notarized power of attorney from one of parents for concluding an enrollment contract in Russian language.

Decision on enrollment to the 1st year is taken by examination committee based on results of document review and results of oral interview in Russian/English, Chemistry and Biology. Foreign citizens who have not passed entrance interview may be admitted to study at preparatory courses.


UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE

In order to be enrolled to the university, within 3 days after crossing the border of the Republic of Belarus,an applicant must:


  • Write an enrollment application addressed to the Rector of the university;

  • Sign a contract for a fee-paying form of education;

  • Pay tuition fee (obligatory for the 1st semester within 3 days after conclusion of study contract, for the 2nd semester - from January 1 to February 1 of current academic year);

  • Submit documents and pay for temporary stay and temporary residence permit (registration) within 5 days after arrival, excluding weekends and holidays. Otherwise, the foreign citizen may be subject to administrative liability by the citizenship and migration authorities, including deportation from the Republic of Belarus;

  • Sign an accommodation contract in a university hostel and pay for the first 6 months. Further on, payment is made by semesters;

  • Undergo a mandatory medical examination by the assignment of the university in professorial advisory center of the university to confirm absence of contraindications for studying in the Republic of Belarus (further on, students undergo a secondary medical examination annually). In case of discrepancy between medical report obtained outside the Republic of Belarus and results of mandatory medical examination, the applicant is obliged to leave the territory of the Republic of Belarus within ten days;

  • Purchase a compulsory health insurance policy (about 220 US dollars), which does not include a medical examination and outpatient treatment, and includes only first and emergency care. Optionally, one can purchase a voluntary health insurance policy, which includes outpatient (ultrasound diagnostics, fluorography, tests), hospital care.



IMPORTANT! In the absence of any document from the above list, a foreign citizen will not be enrolled to the university!


Citizens of Turkmenistan are exempt from purchasing a compulsory medical insurance policy in connection with the entry into force of the Memorandum between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of Turkmenistan.

IMPORTANT! A foreign citizen receives status of a university student after paying tuition and accommodation fees after an enrollment order is being signed.
