Training of medical specialists for foreign countries at Gomel State Medical University was opened in 2000, based on decision of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus as of 04.04.2000 №. 08-28/2462 "On the opening of the Faculty for Training Specialists for Foreign Countries".

The first graduation of foreign citizens at Gomel State Medical University took place in 2001 – 19 foreign medical specialists obtained diplomas, in 2002 - 32 foreign medical specialists obtained diplomas.

 

      

 

 

During the functioning of the Faculty more than 800 foreign specialists from 30 foreign countries have been trained.

Currently more than 1000 students from 35 countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Syria, Morocco, Nigeria, Yemen, Lebanon, Maldives, Israel, Great Britain, Australia, Bangladesh, Russia, Ukraine, etc. are studying at the Faculty of International Students of the University.

Basic department of the Faculty is the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language, which was opened in 2003.

Study of Russian language by foreign students is carried out at the Preparatory Department, and during 1-3 years. Besides, training in English is also organized at the University.

Foreign students live in hostels equipped with all conveniences, have the opportunity to communicate with each other within their communities, celebrate national and religious holidays, as well as, participate in national festivals and exhibitions.

 

 

In the 1st and 2nd years, foreign students study normal anatomy and histology, cytology and embryology, general and bioorganic chemistry, medical biology and general genetics, normal physiology and biochemistry.

 

Academic teaching staff of theoretical departments of the University ensures teaching of fundamental medical disciplines at a high scientific and methodological level.

 

 

Along with medical and biological subjects, students study Russian and Latin languages.

 

 

Students of the 3rd and 4th years study clinical disciplines: pathological physiology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and pharmacology, general surgery and propaedeutics of internal diseases, general hygiene, etc.

 

Students are introduced for the first time to the University’s clinical bases and hospitals, where the foundations of their future professional activities are laid.

 

In the 5th and 6th years, foreign students study surgical and internal diseases, pediatrics and ophthalmology, otolaryngology, infectious and tropical diseases, psychiatry, etc.

 

 

Each student contacts patients directly, participates in clinical rounds and consultations, medical and diagnostic manipulations and is present during operations. Students use most of their time for professional training. For self-training, students have opportunity to study in reading rooms of the University library, in computer classes and student scientific circles, take part in student scientific conferences, and undergo externships in health care institutions of Gomel.

 

 

Participation in student clubs, creative competitions, amateur art competitions and sports competitions make life of foreign students brighter and more fulfilling.

 

A graduate of the Faculty of Foreign Students is awarded an internationally recognized diploma with the title "MD" (Doctor of Medicine). The diploma is accompanied by an academic transcript with grades and number of hours in the subjects studied, which is subsequently compared with the programs of national universities when verifying the diploma abroad and passing exams to confirm the qualification in the home country of foreign citizens.

 

Graduates of the Faculty of International Students of Gomel State Medical University successfully confirm their diplomas in their home countries and work as specialists in various fields of medicine in the EU countries, North America and etc.

 

 

Graduates of the Faculty of International Students of Gomel State Medical University have the opportunity to continue their studies in clinical residency.

 

Gomel State Medical University develops effective mutually beneficial partnerships with university centers around the world on the basis of international agreements on mutual cooperation in the educational and scientific fields.

The University actively develops academic exchanges and holds joint scientific and educational events, researches and conferences in framework of international cooperation.
