On December 17 the university hosted an "Open Dialogue on the Law" dialogue platform for international students. The event focused on legal education, crime prevention and clarification of Belarusian legislation. Inna Gubar Deputy Chair of the Gomel City Executive Committee and Vladislav Zhurakovsky Prosecutor of the City of Gomel served as experts at the meeting. Ekaterina Volchek, Deputy Chair of the Commission on Minors of the Gomel City Executive Committee moderated the dialogue. At the beginning of the meeting, Volchek emphasized that international students like all citizens of other countries residing in Belarus bear full responsibility for their actions in accordance with Belarusian law – criminal, administrative and disciplinary.
The dialogue addressed key issues related to compliance with Belarusian laws, legal regulations for foreigners' stay in the country and measures to prevent crime. Particular attention was paid to liability for extremist crimes.
Prosecutor Vladislav Vladimirovich Zhurakovsky noted that regardless of the severity of the offense only two types of punishment are applicable to foreign citizens: arrest and imprisonment. He emphasized that everyone arriving in the country must carefully study its laws and regulations, as ignorance of the law is no excuse. Vladislav Vladimirovich also warned students about the dangers of the internet, particularly the risks associated with offers of "easy money." He explained that such advertisements can lure young people into fraudulent schemes which will result in criminal liability for complicity.
Inna Viktorovna Gubar thanked the students for choosing Belarus as their educational destination and noted that Belarus attracts foreign citizens not only with its high-quality education but also with its high level of safety, cleanliness and order.
She also reminded that in order to create comfortable and safe conditions for staying in our country it is important that everyone who is there observes the law.
